About Trident's Piezoelectric Inkjet Technology: Trident's products are marketed worldwide through original equipment manufacturers which integrate them into computer-controlled, application-specific products or systems which are then sold to end-users.
Trident's ink jet printheads are based on a proprietary piezoelectric impulse ink jet technology that is durable, versatile and delivers the price/performance characteristics required by industrial markets.
This patented technology forms a high definition image with micro-droplets of ink, which travel across a small gap through the air to the printed surface. The micro-droplets of ink are ejected from orifices smaller than a human hair, at frequencies of up to 15,000 drops per second from each orifice.
Trident's proprietary impulse ink jet technology employs a piezoelectric crystal that changes shape when an electric field is applied across it. The patented technology utilizes the piezoelectric crystal as a piston opposite the orifice through which the ink is projected onto the printing surface. The process of printing each droplet takes approximately 0.0001 seconds. By generating the micro-droplets at high frequencies and velocities, the distance that they can travel increases, which makes the gap between the printhead and the printing surface larger.
The high pressures generated also enable more than one orifice to be placed in each channel, which increases the print area without added cost and complexity. This arrangement of the piezoelectric crystal and ink channels, along with the use of multiple orifices per channel, are proprietary to Trident. |
